How to use the Virtues
The best way to learn how to use the virtues is
to read the book Virtues Work. Virtues Work clearly defines every virtue. It explains how to use them, describes how every virtue will enhance life, and specifies what will happen to you if you don't use the virtues. Plus, Virtues Work lays out a simple, four-step Program that helps you make the virtues daily habits. |

The following steps will get you started making the virtues habits:
1. Pick one virtue to work on Nobody can successfully form seven new habits at the same time. |
2. Read a definition of the virtue Be sure it's the virtue, not the word as commonly used, because they aren't always the same. And look for examples of the virtue in daily life: When is someone using it? How? What does it look like? |
3. Plan how you will use that virtue Think about: When can you use the virtue? What will the circumstances be? Who will be there? Visualize using the virtue. How will you feel? Do you need a deadline to remind yourself to use your virtue--how about by lunch? By 5:00? |
4. Toward the end of the day, think about your day Did you use the virtue you picked? When? Were there other occasions that you missed? How can you do it more often tomorrow? |
These steps will get you rolling, but to really make the virtues habits,
read the book.
